(This is a letter received Friday, October 12th from Father Greg Schluter, Lieutenant Commander, US Navy. Father Schluter, a Lounge Lizard in Exile, just returned from a 7-month tour ministering to our troops in Iraq. Father Greg's ministry rises above any conversation about the war itself, and touches on the hearts of those men and women who go where they're told, risking their lives on behalf of our country. God bless you Father Greg - and thanks for your enthusiastic support of MartiniInTheMorning.com!)Brad,
I just got back from the war this week. I was unable to access this email address while I was there. Thanks for all of the prayers.
We had only one KIA and 9 WIA's during our seven months in Iraq, a remarkably low number for the amount of attacks that we faced while we were there. Contrary to most news reports, we are winning the war (at least the Marines are) in the Al Anbar Province. Things are improving rapidly. The number of enemy actions were cut down roughly 75% during our time there. The Iraqis are taking over the civil law enforcement and government. Hopefully, they will continue on after we leave.
The ministry was absolutely wonderful over there. I went out on 43 various combat missions, celebrated Eucharist 212 times, and visited Marines in isolated battle positions 137 times. There is something about being in combat that makes men think about their spiritual life. I came under enemy attack personally just enough to say that I have been shot at in war, but not too much to be overly concerned.
Unfortunately, they blocked access to all streaming audio while I was there, so I was not able to listen to you live while I was there. Fortunately, I anticipated that before I left and recorded a few week's worth of martiniinthemoring.com via radiotime.com. I listened to you ever day just like back in the States, except it wasn't live.
Going to war in a Marine ground combat unit for our nation was a very rewarding experience, however, it is good to be back home in Southern California again.
I will be listening.
Pax Christi,
Father Greg+

Hello,
My name is Nance Yuan, and I am a 22-year-old college student at UC Berkeley, and I just wanted to thank you for broadcasting the wonderful music on Martini in the Morning. I love the classic songs that are on Martini in the Morning, and it's sad that there isn't any regular radio station that features this music. I am from San Francisco, and we used to have "KABL" which had these types of songs, but about 5 years ago, that radio station disappeared. Now all we have is mainstream pop, country, and rock, which is also great, but I miss having songs sung by the greats! I love this music, and I wanted to say thanks for having this online radio station--this is exactly what I've been hoping for for a long time. I also wanted to let you know that there is certainly a young audience that appreciates songs from the past. I have many friends in college who share my interest. If this were on broadcast radio, I would listen to it all the time! (Currently it's just whenever I'm at a computer). I'm a bit of a starving college student, and I haven't been able to buy those massive CD collections from Time Life, so thanks for providing this online. I hope that you will be able to move into regular broadcast radio, too. If there is anything I can do to help the cause (besides subscribing, as I'm a bit tight on funds, but I hope to in the future), please let me know. :)
Sincerely,
Nance Yuan
============================================================Hi Brad. I just wanted to thank you for the great music you play. Besides rock 'n roll, I grew up on this kind of music and it's been great to hear some of these songs I haven't heard in ages on your station. You and I are the same age and probably listened to a lot of the same kind of music.
I've really been enjoying the Buble weekend!!! I guess you could say I got Bubletized about a year ago after seeing Michael in person for the first time. I already loved his singing but got to experience his performing, too. He puts on a great show.
Anyway, thanks again and keep on playing that great music.

Brad,
I wrote you awhile back about affiliate possibilities in the Kansas City area, once you get to that point. I have to believe you will. The music is astounding. I can't imagine going an entire day without some time spent with martiniinthemorning.com. I've e-mailed several folks and if you decide to go the subscription route, even to get you over some hurdles in these formative months and years, sign me up. I'll gladly pay a monthly subscription. Keep up the good work. It sounds fabulous.
Sincerely,
